A Salamander Man in the House of God

Have you heard in the news about a thief they dubbed the "salamander man" who talked his way into the homes of dozens of unsuspecting people by saying he was looking for his lost salamander, hamster or iguana. (click here)

That reminds me of what Satan does. He comes under false pretences and sometimes even appeals to our good intentions just so he can get his foot in the door of our heart and rob us spiritually blind. 1 Peter 5:8 says, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

Likewise,
false teachers also use deception and lies, appealing to peoples good intentions only to deceive them with false teaching. False teachers often pose a real problem but then give an ungodly solution. Usually, it involves giving the false teacher money. Example Robert Tilton.

In 2 Timothy 3:6-8 Paul said, "They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth— men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected."

In 1 Timothy 6:3-5 Paul said, "If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain."

The Apostle Peter warned in 2 Peter 3:17, "Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position."
