What Are You Looking For?

What are you looking for here? What makes you tick? What is motivating you to say what you say and do what you do?

What makes you get out of bed in the morning? What do you love the most? Where are your priorities? What makes you go to some people and walk away from others?

Why do people do what they do? It's all about what they put first.

For some what they put first is their fleshly desire: Their lusty hunger.

Philippians 3:18-19 says, "For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things."

Others put their family first. They will compromise their morals, their doctrine, their ethics, their standards and their point of view so as not to hurt their standing with their family. They bend to the will of evil if it comes from their family.

Matthew 10:37-39 says, "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."

Still others long for material possessions. They turn Christianity into the latest self-help gimmick for the insatiable hunger of the gullibly greedy.

2 Peter 2:14 say of them "With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood!"

But lust, pride and greed only lead to worry, conceit, and vanity. Ecclesiastes 6:7 says "All man's efforts are for his mouth, yet his appetite is never satisfied." And Proverbs 27:20 says, Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are the eyes of man."

Matthew 6:31-33 says, "So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
